Week 30 Pregnancy

Week 30 Pregnancy: What's Actually Happening With Your Baby, Your Body and Your Breastfeeding Plan

Ten weeks left. That's genuinely where you are right now, and for a lot of mums I talk to, this is the week it all gets real. The kicks feel stronger. The belly feels bigger. And that to-do list that felt so far off a few months back is suddenly right there.

I'll cover what's happening with your baby and your body this week, but I also want to spend real time on something most pregnancy content skips entirely: getting ready to breastfeed before your baby actually arrives. That's the whole reason Wonderbewbz exists. We turn breast milk into a shelf stable powder for mums here in Singapore, and week 30 is a smart time to start figuring out how you'll handle your milk once your baby's here.

How Far Along You Are

     30 weeks, month 7

     Third trimester

     About 10 weeks to go

     Roughly 75% through

Your prenatal visits will probably pick up from here. Your doctor's checking growth, listening for the heartbeat, and asking how often you're feeling movement. Standard stuff, but it means more appointments on your calendar.

What's Happening With Your Baby

Around 1.4 kg, somewhere between 27 and 40 cm depending how it's measured, roughly cabbage or cantaloupe sized

Eyes opening and closing, sensing light and dark

Lanugo, that fine body hair, starting to shed

     Hair on the head thickening

Practicing breathing movements with no air in the lungs yet

Grip getting stronger, some babies can hold their own feet now

You don't need to do anything about any of this, honestly. Your body's got it handled. This is just one of the busiest growth stretches before birth.

What You Might Feel

Braxton Hicks: a tightening across your belly, not real labour, usually settles with rest or water. Call your doctor if it turns regular or painful.

Back pain: your centre of gravity has shifted. Better shoes and posture help more than you'd think.

Breathlessness: your uterus is pressing on your diaphragm now. Tends to ease once baby drops lower.

Bad sleep and fatigue: bathroom trips, discomfort, a bump that won't let you get comfortable. Grab naps where you can.

Itchy or dry skin: comes from stretching. Moisturiser helps.

Swelling in feet and ankles: mild swelling's common, feet up helps. Sudden or severe swelling needs a doctor's check, not a wait and see.

Fundal Height And Your Belly

Fundal height, the distance from your pubic bone to the top of your uterus, usually sits between 28 and 32 cm around now. Your doctor tracks it at every visit to keep an eye on growth.

One thing I'll say: every belly looks completely different. Comparing yours to someone else's bump photos is a fast way to feel bad about nothing.

Your Week 30 Checklist

  •      Research childcare if you're heading back to work
  •      Start packing your hospital bag
  •      Get your car seat installed and checked
  •      Talk through a birth plan with your doctor or midwife
  •      Ask about Tdap timing
  •      Start daily kick counts if your doctor's recommended it

Getting Ready To Breastfeed

Most checklists stop at car seats and hospital bags. I want you to go further. Worth doing now:

Read up on latching and positioning before baby arrives

Learn what colostrum actually is, it looks nothing like what you'd expect

Talk to a lactation consultant if you can, even before delivery

Our guide on tips on how to breastfeed covers the basics in plain language, so you're not learning all of this for the first time while running on zero sleep.

Choosing A Pump

A lot of mums start pump shopping around now. Doing it early gives you room to compare brands and prices, read actual reviews instead of grabbing whatever's in stock, and figure out what fits your budget and your return-to-work timeline.

Our piece on the best time to pump milk breaks down how to build a pumping routine that works with your body instead of fighting it.

Planning Your Milk Storage Before Birth

This is the part most pregnancy guides skip completely, and it's the part I care about most.

Once you're expressing milk, you need a system. Your real options are the fridge for the short term, the freezer for longer, or freeze drying for the longest shelf life without eating up freezer space.

Working this out now instead of scrambling after delivery makes the newborn stage noticeably calmer. Our guide on breast milk storage walks through exactly how long milk keeps in each condition.

If freeze drying sounds like your kind of solution, our Freeze Dried Breastmilk Service In Singapore turns your expressed milk into a powder that stores easily with zero freezer space needed. Worth looking into now, while you've actually got time to think it through properly.

Nutrition And Calcium

Your baby's bones are hardening fast right now, so your calcium needs go up. Aim for around 1,000 mg a day, from dairy, fortified foods, leafy greens, almonds. Stay hydrated too, it helps with both the swelling and the fatigue.

If milk supply's already on your mind, our diet plan to increase breast milk is worth bookmarking for later.

When To Call Your Doctor

     Vaginal bleeding or fluid leakage

Regular, painful contractions getting closer together

     A sudden drop in movement

Severe headaches, blurred vision, sudden swelling in your face or hands

Chest pain or a real change in your breathing

When in doubt, call. Checking beats waiting every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many months pregnant is week 30 pregnancy?

Month 7, third trimester, about 10 weeks left.

What size is my baby at 30 weeks?

Around 1.4 kg and 27 to 40 cm, roughly a small cabbage or a cantaloupe.

Is it normal to feel Braxton Hicks at this stage?

Yes. It should feel like tightening, not pain. Rest, water or a position change usually helps.

Should I start preparing to breastfeed during week 30?

Yes. Reading up on latching, colostrum and pumping now means less guesswork later, when you'll have far less patience for research.

How much calcium do I need in the third trimester?

Around 1,000 mg a day, from foods like dairy, leafy greens and almonds.

What is fundal height at this stage?

Usually 28 to 32 cm, measured from your pubic bone to the top of your uterus.

Can I set up a breast milk storage plan before giving birth?

Yes, and I'd genuinely encourage it. Working out your fridge, freezer or freeze drying plan ahead of time is one less decision you're making on no sleep.

When should I pack my hospital bag?

Many mums start around now, since babies don't always wait for their due date.

What symptoms should I never ignore in the third trimester?

Vaginal bleeding, reduced movement, severe headaches, sudden swelling, or regular painful contractions. Call your doctor, don't wait it out.

Does Wonderbewbz help with milk storage before or after birth?

Our freeze dried powder service is for after birth, once you're expressing milk. But it's worth researching during pregnancy, so you already know how it works and what it costs before you actually need it.

One Last Thing From Wonderbewbz

Week 30 is real progress, even on the days it just feels like backache and bathroom trips. You're closer than you were yesterday, and that counts for something.

Whatever you land on for feeding and storage, the goal right now is just having a plan before your baby arrives, not a perfect one.
